Pipe Repair and Replacement Services
One reason we recommend annual plumbing inspections is to avoid burst pipes. It’s a common but often avoidable issue. One reason that pipes fail is corrosion, and plumbers can spot those issues long before there’s damage to the pipe. Another cause is high pressure. This can happen in winter if a pipe freezes and the ice expands. It can also happen due to limescale accumulation. Scale can build up in your pipes over time if you have hard water.
Whether you should opt for repair or pipe replacement depends on the condition of the pipe. If you have a burst pipe, replacing the entire pipe is usually necessary. If, on the other hand, you have a small leak, repair is typically possible. Often, it involves replacing a valve or connection. If there are pinholes, fixing it with epoxy or putty may be an option.
When do we recommend a full pipe replacement? When a plumbing system is older than 50 years, you should consider it. Many plumbing systems can last 100 years or longer. That said, if you’re experiencing issues, it may be time at 50 years or so. It’ll cost more now but save you on maintenance and repairs for many decades to come.
How long does replacement take? If you’re having our team replace a single pipe, you can expect it to take several hours at most. If our team replaces an entire system, it can take a couple of days up to an entire week. It really depends on the size of the home and the complexity, age, and condition of the system. Another factor is whether you’re living in the home during the replacement. It will take longer then because there are more logistics to consider.
